Guess who aced his semester and would be moving into Super Blue, if that was a thing for super prodigies. Like me. Also I guess I need to get back to some stuff now that I've crushed academics and the burgeoning student underworld. If we had business, let's rock and roll. Throw me a message, or I'll find ya.

History teach, we got some biz I'm pretty sure. As well as someone who's a little... Bright.

[Event]

A.) Renat is on the steps of Duel Academy, counting his money and openly displaying a letter of the school. This isn't quite a secret and he's proud to show that he legitimately aced his semester of too many classes. But at what price?

B.) He's milling outside the SJL field, but just far enough it's considered public property. And he's hammering a sign into the ground: 'Free Dojo Crashing, ask me how.'

C.) He's in your office. It's during visiting hours because he's not a monster, but he's wearing his shades indoors. And his heavily modified uniform. It's barely within dress code.

Yes, there's a "weird guy" bothering me. But why is it the concern of a student?

"It was something that popped into Sanae's head when I asked him about weird stuff that I'd may have missed. And I'm pretty interested in weird stuff on this island.

Uh-huh, well, the guy's weird, but he hasn't done anything spooky, yet.

Other than making me think he might be a vampire.

"... vampire?

Y... yes? I know at least one vampire personally.

Not that I'm going to give you a name, though.

"I don't need names. I ain't gonna stalk people who ain't doing anything wrong, teach.

What makes you think this dude's a vampire though?"

Well he's pale, never seems to go out in the daytime, acts shadowy and mysterious and gives me a terrible sinking feeling in my stomach, and also he keeps coming around to eat at midnight.

"... Not to discredit ya, but have you thought he can be a weird shut-in? ... besides the terrible sinking feeling. I'm pretty sure you've got a good sense about those things."

He might be a weird shut-in, or he might have something up with him.

Especially since I can't find anyone named "Satou, Tarou", with his description, when I try to look him up.

*crossing their arms.*

"... that sounds like a fake name. Like, the absolutely fakest name to exist.

How does the brass here live with that?"

It sure does. *sighing a bit, leaning back*

I tried to bring it up as a complaint, though more me asking "who the hell is this guy", and they said it's fine! I don't have any idea why they'd say it's fine, though.

"They want him here, then. There ain't no other explanation. Well, either that or they can't be bothered to look into him.

Yeah, but it also means I can't just tell him to get lost, and he goes and acts friendly enough.

*course, I could just go with one option if I really wanted to know things, but I'm not gonna say that to this kid*

Why, are you gonna prod at him for your teacher?

"I mean, maybe. You're one of my favorites here, honestly.

If ya wanted me to. I don't mind if ya just tell me to mind my own business. But I get the impression I got slightly more freedom in this than you."

Well, you're right kid. I officially have to tell you to mind your own business. But I can't actually stop you from talking to the weirdo, either.

And I appreciate the statement that I'm "one of your favorites", but don't get used to it.

"Well, yeah. It's a one time thing, so that ya understand where I'm coming from. Well, officially then, I guess I'm gonna have to buzz off. Give up.

Maybe expect an extra credit report from me about something in the future though. Not that I need it."

An extra credit report?

"Y'know. About weird things on the island.

I'm gonna try and get in to become a research assistant for those sort of places, so I'm above-board and don't gotta worry about talking about it."

Oh, well, yes, that would probably be a good idea.

Since everyone is technically obligated to expel you if you go into places unauthorized.

"Hasn't happened though. Surprisingly."

Probably because some people are using you for something, you realize. Right?

"Oh, absolutely. But for what? I got a few ideas, but I don't think miss Bright's enough to keep me from it.

My real question is who needs something so bad that they can't get it themselves and hope that I unearth it?

Well, beats me. Maybe the teachers tend to not have a lot of freedom to poke their noses around, since it could get them fired or arrested, right?

*taps a finger on their desk*

Not that I'd really care, but I'm in this position because of a....... Very good friend of mine. *what was that pause* So he'd probably not like it if I got fired for stuff like, I dunno, "throwing creepy mcfakename into the ocean", or publicly encouraging ogre-like beings into doing such a thing, either.

Renat's not going to call that pause out. He does notice it though.

"I dunno... it seems like if you're passionate enough you could get a pass though. So, they'd have to be non-staff or vaguely attached.

So, publicly. But if someone does throw him into the ocean, you're also not going to complain?"

Of course not, what does it matter to me if the guy ends up in the ocean? It's not like he's my responsibility.
