It's time to find ghosts. For fun and profit. And dueling. Renat's excited about ALL of these. He has his map of the island with red circles around all of the forbidden areas. Tonight's forbidden area: The abandoned dorms.

He's been here literally one day and is already doing things that could get him detention for a thousand years. It's a good start. He's gearing up his disk, his sleek uniform, and making sure his fangs are properly brushed before he has to use them to eat ghosts or whatever the hell else he might need to do. Not quite in a forbidden area YET though.

[Colly's cat-like reflexes means that she was perfectly able to not dodge at all and be scooped up in some kind of heroic dive.]

n-nyaa?! does this purrilding have sand disease too?!

"Nah, jus' think it's old."

He starts to let Colly down so she can at least pretend that she dodged with cat-like grace and reflexes.

"... Might not be full of ghosts and is just dangerous. That's lame. But never fear, I researched for five minutes before heading out on how to make ghosts appear.

HEY! Come at us ghosts!"

*there's no response.

... but eventually, you hear a creaaaaaaak deeper in the Abandoned Dorm ruins... it sounds like it's coming from beneath you almost, but that's silly. What could be below you.*

[She hops out of Renat's arms and pats herself down with the kind of smug expression only a cat pretending it meant to do that can have.]

... I don't think yelling at ghosts will make them real, ny-

[oh god a creak]

M-maybe there's no ghosts 'cause they don't exist, nya, but creepy ax murderer guy living in the basement, nya?!

"Pfah! I can take a duel murderer. What's it gonna be? Some masked psychopath in a coat and demon pacts? A weird shadowy organization, dedicated to obtaining forbidden cards? A cult dedicated to peace and brainwashing?

Maybe some god at the top? Nah. That stuff's too far out there. Probably just someone who came here for an upgrade to the Red Dorms."

And with that, he starts searching for a way down.

*well, it's really really dark in there.

But you THINK you might've found stairs underneath some broken floorboards and all. and a support beam that probably wasn't important anyway.*

He fumbles a bit, but produces a flashlight. And starts to clear the way.

"If ya wanna back out Colly, I ain't gonna think less of ya. These stairs could collapse, locking us in a basement, where no one who hasn't died of sand disease knows where we are, with no way to contact the outside world, with a ghost, or a duel maniac, or a ghost duel maniac."

[Colly pauses. And thinks very deeply. Ghosts don't exist, of course, but duel maniacs probably exist. And stairs collapsing exist. That'd be bad. But, also...]

It's nyokay, if the stairs purrlapse I can just jump to the door 'cause I'm a cat, nya. And ghosts don't exist, only sand disease.

He's not gonna say anything.

"Only sand disease, huh? Well, let's get going. Hey ghosts! We're coming down!"

*you hear another creaaaaak at that.

... And something crashing down there. It's extremely loud and echoy given the dark empty area here.*

"Aw, yeah."

And he starts down, using his flashlight.

"C'mon, Colly."

[she follows behind. Just close enough to keep Renat inbetween her and a potential danger, but not so close he might notice and have time to get offended that she's run away to leave him to die to a duel murderer.

Also she starts wishing she had a flashlight. Wait. She doesn't need a flashlight.]

You nyow I don't even need a furashlight, nya. Cats have purrfect night vision.

[she needs a flashlight.]

"Yeah? Good. Maybe ya can go first, spot the ghost so we can get the drop on it so I can grapple it an' ya can sketch it."

... nyou're the boy so you have to go first, nya.

*while you're both bickering, you both become vaguely aware of something moving at the bottom of the steps. But it's way too dark to see.*

"I thought we moved away from these harmful gender stereo-the hell is that?"

And he shines his light down at the bottom.

They're not harmnyal if they work fur meo--

[She's vanished behind Renat now. You'll never catch her, mysterious step murderer.]

*oh, it's nothing.

Oh, no, wait, your flashlight shines on some very long, sharp claws.

Which then get revealed to be attached to to an arm, attached to a very vicious looking demon with large wings that're blocking any view past it.

roll for initiative to run the hell away, since it's moving upwards towards you. You still got a chance.*

Renat sees this. he stares. And turns back to Colly.

"We need to probably leave now."

[Colly has unfortunately melted into a Colly-shaped cloud of dust. My god. Dust Disease. So young.

And if she somehow didn't die of turning into dust she's probably running on all fours in the dark shrieking NYAAAAAA but that's just her soul's last screams, probably.]

Oh. Oh shit that guy must've gotten some sand or is this different is the real difference between sand and dust location only? Or is dust more the tiny particulates of skin and small flecks of dirt in the air...

... This is not the time to think on these things. He backs up quickly up the stairs, keeping his light on the demon in front of him.

"Heh... gettit? She was a cat until the end. A scardy-cat."

*the demon lets out a loud HISSSSSSSSS as it keeps chasing you, up, up, and up--

Until you're off of the stairs back at the top, where the demon finally stops, it's long claws on the edges of the opening, as though daring you to try to come back down.*

Renat is smarter than your average meat-head. But he's also a reckless thrill seeker. The fact that it's stopped instead of pursuing him to try and eat his face is... a little weird.

"... Can ya not come all the way out?"

He is 100% prepared to run and follow the NYAAAS if the demon is, in fact, bluffing.

*if you try to test it, it reaches far past the opening to try to claw at you.

Let's just say that while it's not interested in eating your face, it's fully capable of coming all the way out.*

... Renat will remember this. But: he came here with someone who was DESPERATELY ill-equipped.

"This isn't the last ya've seen of me, bud."

And he sprints out of the dorm.

"Colly! COLLY! Say nyaaa if you ain't been turned into sand!"
