It's time to find ghosts. For fun and profit. And dueling. Renat's excited about ALL of these. He has his map of the island with red circles around all of the forbidden areas. Tonight's forbidden area: The abandoned dorms.

He's been here literally one day and is already doing things that could get him detention for a thousand years. It's a good start. He's gearing up his disk, his sleek uniform, and making sure his fangs are properly brushed before he has to use them to eat ghosts or whatever the hell else he might need to do. Not quite in a forbidden area YET though.

Sorry, I seem to have come down with a new, deathly illness.

On top of my current, life-threatening illness.

[Colly blinks and turns from her current obnoxious cat-based conversation to a NEW obnoxious cat-based conversation.]

Some hospitnyals have cats to make the pawtients feel better, nya. Maybe nyou'll feel better if nyou just stick around here, nya?

[her hands have not moved from her cat-pose position. she's perhaps too dedicated.]

Oh, no. My new disease is catching up. Sand disease.

*makes his hands turn into sand, which fall apart slowly for her to see.*

"AAAAAAAAA"

[blink. blink. oh.]

NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

"RUN COLLY, RUN, DON'T LET THAT TOUCH YOU

TO THE GHOST HAUNTED HELL DORMS, THE ONLY PLACE THAT'S SAFE"

He begins to Scooby Doo run.

*he watches them start to run, as the sand slowly goes up his arms. Just in case Colly needs more motivation to also run.*

[Colly has lept into the air, landed on all fours and taken off to the haunted hell dorms as well because if this is gonna be a scooby run then SHE'S gonna be Scooby god dammit.]

*well, that worked. I didn't even have to use the failsafe I convinced out of Shouya. Cool.

He stops melting into sand before heading off. They'll probably be fine by themselves, right?*

After some screaming, some running, Renat stops near the abandoned dorms, catching his breath.

"Wait. ... We shoulda maybe tried to help him."

[Colly skids to a stop still on all fours. She doesn't get back on her feet, why would she do that, she's a cat.]

Nyou kidding me?! I don't wanna be a litter box, nya!

"A good point. I hate sand, it's course and it gets EVERYWHERE.

We'll ignore a death on our conscience, because tonight is for CRIME. Tomorrow we'll search for cures for obscure diseases! ... what's so dangerous about derelict buildings?"

Nyothing so long as they don't have any vials of sand disease in them, nya. [she nervously licks the top of her hand like it's a paw and rubs her hair, then finally gets back to standing upright like a person god damn it.]

You're the boy so nyou gotta go in first, nya. I nyow what happens in horror meowvies.

"... why were you...

Right. Cat."

He takes a deep breath. Stares up at the dorms.

And starts heading straight into the haunted hell dorms. He's fine. It'll be fine.

Nyeah. Cat. I'm glad nyou get it, nya.

[She creeps up behind him, making sure she can put him inbetween any potential Sand Disease and her so she can bravely run away.

After like, two steps, something from the ceiling attempts to fall and smash the two to bits. Sand disease, now beams???

Some crime this is. Only death awaits!

Renat, for his part, looks like he's going to be able to get out of the way. If Colly's, uh. Cat-like reflexes look like they're gonna fail her, he's going to scoop her too.

[Colly's cat-like reflexes means that she was perfectly able to not dodge at all and be scooped up in some kind of heroic dive.]

n-nyaa?! does this purrilding have sand disease too?!

"Nah, jus' think it's old."

He starts to let Colly down so she can at least pretend that she dodged with cat-like grace and reflexes.

"... Might not be full of ghosts and is just dangerous. That's lame. But never fear, I researched for five minutes before heading out on how to make ghosts appear.

HEY! Come at us ghosts!"

*there's no response.

... but eventually, you hear a creaaaaaaak deeper in the Abandoned Dorm ruins... it sounds like it's coming from beneath you almost, but that's silly. What could be below you.*

[She hops out of Renat's arms and pats herself down with the kind of smug expression only a cat pretending it meant to do that can have.]

... I don't think yelling at ghosts will make them real, ny-

[oh god a creak]

M-maybe there's no ghosts 'cause they don't exist, nya, but creepy ax murderer guy living in the basement, nya?!

"Pfah! I can take a duel murderer. What's it gonna be? Some masked psychopath in a coat and demon pacts? A weird shadowy organization, dedicated to obtaining forbidden cards? A cult dedicated to peace and brainwashing?

Maybe some god at the top? Nah. That stuff's too far out there. Probably just someone who came here for an upgrade to the Red Dorms."

And with that, he starts searching for a way down.

*well, it's really really dark in there.

But you THINK you might've found stairs underneath some broken floorboards and all. and a support beam that probably wasn't important anyway.*

He fumbles a bit, but produces a flashlight. And starts to clear the way.

"If ya wanna back out Colly, I ain't gonna think less of ya. These stairs could collapse, locking us in a basement, where no one who hasn't died of sand disease knows where we are, with no way to contact the outside world, with a ghost, or a duel maniac, or a ghost duel maniac."

[Colly pauses. And thinks very deeply. Ghosts don't exist, of course, but duel maniacs probably exist. And stairs collapsing exist. That'd be bad. But, also...]

It's nyokay, if the stairs purrlapse I can just jump to the door 'cause I'm a cat, nya. And ghosts don't exist, only sand disease.

He's not gonna say anything.

"Only sand disease, huh? Well, let's get going. Hey ghosts! We're coming down!"
